NOTIFICATION

Important dates
I. Before submission of the online Application form , the candidates should read 
this notification carefully.
The Karnataka State Eligibility Test (K-SET) center for Lectureship, University of Mysore, 
Mysore will be holding the Test on 08th DECEMBER 2013 (Sunday) for determining the 
eligibility for Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) in various universities/colleges/Institutions 
(Government/Aided/ Private) in Karnataka State. K-SET center will conduct the test in 32 
(Thirty Two) subjects (listed under item no.IX) at 11 (Eleven) selected Centers (listed under Item 
no. X) spread across the Karnataka State.
The result of the K-SET to be held on 08th DECEMBER 2013 will be made available on the 
K-SET center website http://kset.uni-mysore.ac.in and shall also be announced in the news 
papers. The candidates will not be individually intimated about their result.
Candidates who qualify the K-SET will be governed by the rules and regulations for recruitment
of lecturers (Assistant Professors) of the concerned Universities / Colleges / Institutions 
(Government/ Aided / Private) in Karnataka State.

Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) / Visually Handicapped (VH) / Physically 
Handicapped (PH), Cat-I, and IIA , IIB , IIIA & IIIB category as per the Backward Classes 
Listed in Government of Karnataka web (bcdbng@kar.nic.in).

II. CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY :
i) Candidates who have secured at least 55% of aggregate marks (without rounding 
off) in Master‟s Degree OR equivalent examination from universities / institutions 
recognized by UGC, New Delhi in Science Subjects, Humanities (including 
languages) and social science, Computer science & Applications, Electronic science 
etc. are eligible to appear for this Test. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste 
(SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) / VH/PH candidates, category candidates who have 
secured at least 50% of aggregate marks (without rounding off) in Master‟s degree 
or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.
ii) Candidates who have appeared OR will be appearing at the qualifying Master‟s 
degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited OR candidates 
whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this Test. 
However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered 
eligible for the award of Lectureship eligibility only after they have passed their 
Master‟s degree examination or equivalent with at least 55% of aggregate marks 
(50% of aggregates marks in case of SC/ST/ VH/PH category candidates). Such 
candidates must complete their Master‟s degree examination within Two years 
from the date of K-SET result with the required percentage of marks, failing which
they shall be treated as disqualified.
iii) The Ph.D. Degree holders whose Master‟s level examination had been completed 
by 19th September 1991 (irrespective of declaration of result) shall be eligible for 
a relaxation of 5 % in aggregate marks ( i.e. from 55 to 50%) for appearing for 

K-SET.

iv) Candidates shall appear to the K-SET in the subject of their post-graduation only, 
as per list of subjects mentioned in item No. IX. In case the subject of candidate is 
NOT included in K-SET subjects, as per UGC guidelines, the candidate may appear 
in UGC NET/UGC-CSIR NET examination.
v) Candidates seeking concession in fee are required to submit the attest copy of their,
SC/ST/Cat- I/VH/PH candidates along with hard copy of the online printout of their 
Application Form (obtained while applying online). Therefore, the candidates, in 
their own interest, must satisfy themselves about their eligibility for the Test before 
submitting their online application form. In the event of any ineligibility being 
detected with respect to caste certificate by the K-SET centre at any stage, their 
candidature will be cancelled, their results will be withheld and they shall be liable 
for legal action.
vi) Candidates belonging to OBC Category (category IIA, IIB, IIIA and IIIB) have to 
submit their respective caste certificates along with the hard copy of application 
form. The category certificates should obtained on or before last date of the 
submission of online application form and should be of recent date (within 6 
months). In the event of any ineligibility being detected by the K-SET center with 
respect to caste certificate at any stage, their candidature will be cancelled, their 
results will be withheld and they shall be liable for legal action.3
vii) Candidates belonging to the General category are not required to submit any Caste 
certificates / documents in support of their eligibility along with printout of their 
application form. 
viii) Candidates possessing post-graduate diploma/certificate course(s), should in their 
own interest, ascertain the equivalence of their course(s) with Master‟s degree of 
recognized Indian Universities from Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi

III. AGE : There is no upper age limit for applying for Lectureship.

IV. EXEMPTION : 

i) K-SET shall remain the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment and appointment of
Lecturers (Assistant Professors) in Universities /Colleges / Institutions of Higher 
education (Government/Aided/ Private) in Karnataka State. However, as per UGC 
guidelines, those candidates, who have been awarded Ph.D.Degree in compliance of the 
“University Grants Commission (minimum standards and procedures for award of Ph.D. 
Degree), Regulation 2009”, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum 
eligibility condition of K-SET for recruitment and appointment of Lecturers or equivalent 
position in Universities / Colleges / Institutions of Higher education.
ii) The candidates who have passed the UGC-NET/CSIR, JRF examination prior to 1989 
are also exempted from appearing in for K-SET.

V. EXAMINATION FEE AND MODE OF PAYMENT :

Following is the examination fee fixed for candidates appearing for K-SET 
Examination:
1.General: Rs.1000/-
2.Category IIA,IIB,IIIA,IIIB: Rs. 800/-
3.Cat-I,SC/ST/VH/PH: Rs. 500/-
Late fee of Rs.100/- has to be paid by all candidates who submit, online application after 
the last date.
Note: All the candidates, belonging to category IIA, IIB, IIIA, IIIB, Cat-I,SC/ST/VH/PH
candidates, shall provide proof of their caste / category certificate which should be 
enclosed in support of their claim along with the hard copy of the application form.
The candidate is required to fill the Bank Challan Form in triplicate (Bank Copy, 
K-SET Copy & Candidate‟s Copy) as given in the Notification. All the three copies of 
the Challan Form have to be submitted to any branch of State Bank of Mysore along with 
the bank charges (bank commission) of Rs.20/-. The bank will retain one copy and return 
two copies of the challan to the candidate. The candidate has to attach one copy (K-SET 
copy) of the challan with the printout of online Application Form which he/she has to 
submit to the Nodal Officer of the respective Test Center, opted by the candidate.4
Please note that fee submitted by any other mode like money order, demand draft, 
IPO etc. will NOT be accepted. Fee once paid will NOT be refunded under any 
circumstances.

VI. SCHEME AND DATE OF EXAMINATION:

a) The Test will consist of three papers. The test for all the three papers will consist of only 
MULTIPLE-CHOICE questions. The test will be held on 08th December 2013 
(SUNDAY), in two separate sessions as mentioned below:

Paper-I : General Paper on Teaching and Aptitude:
This Paper shall be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of 
the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, 
divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. Sixty(60) multiple-choice 
questions of two marks each will be given, out of which the candidate would be required 
to answer any fifty (50) questions. In the event of candidate attempting more than fifty 
questions, the first fifty questions attempted by the candidate would be evaluated.
Paper-II : Subject Paper : 
This Paper shall consist of questions based on the subject selected by the candidate. Each 
paper will consist of a Test Booklet containing 50 compulsory Multiple-choice questions 
of two marks each. 
Paper-III : Subject paper (in depth questions):
i) This Paper will consists of 75 Multiple-choice, compulsory questions from the subject 
selected by the candidates. Each questions will carry two marks. 
All the questions of paper II & Paper III will be compulsory, covering the entire syllabus 
(including all electives, without any options). The candidate will have to mark the responses 
for questions of paper I, Paper II & paper III on the optical mark reader (OMR) sheet provided 
along with the test booklet.
The detailed instructions for filling up the OMR sheet including instructions to candidates will 
be made available on K-SET website http://kset.uni-mysore.ac.in during the second week of
November, 2013. 
ii) A candidate who does NOT appear for Paper-I and Paper-II will NOT be permitted to appear 
for Paper-III.
iii) There will be no negative marking.5
b) For Visually Handicapped/ Physically Handicapped 30 minutes extra time will be 
provided separately for Paper-I and Paper-II. For Paper-III, 45 minutes extra time 
shall be provided. They will also be provided the services of a scribe who would be a 
graduate in a subject other than that of the candidate. Such of those VH/PH candidates 
seeking services of scribes have to make a written request (at least 15 days before the 
date of K-SET examination) to the Nodal officer of the respective test center opted by 
the candidate. Those Visually Handicapped/ Physically Handicapped candidates who 
are not in a position to write in their own handwriting can also avail these services by 
making prior request (at least 15 days before the date of examination) in writing to the 
Nodal officer of the respective test center opted by the candidate. Extra time and 
facility of scribe would not be provided to other Physically Handicapped candidates.
VII. PROCEDURE & CRITIRIA FOR DECLARATION OF K-SET RESULT :
This will comprise the following steps;
Step 1: Minimum marks to be obtained in K-SET for considering a candidate for award of 
final eligibility for Lectureship.
The candidates are required to obtain the following minimum marks separately in 
Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III as given below for considering a candidate for eligibility 
for Lectureship.

Step 2: A merit list will be prepared subject-wise and category-wise using the aggregate 
marks (from all the three papers) obtained amongst the candidates who have obtained 
minimum marks prescribed in each paper.
Step 3: From out of merit list prepared in step-2, top 15% candidates (for each subject and 
for each category) will be declared as K-SET qualified for eligibility for Lectureship.
It may be noted that the above qualifying criteria decided by K-SET in final and 
binding.
VIII. SYLLABUS AND QUESTION PAPER FOR K-SET:
a) Syllabus of Test: Syllabus for K-SET examination will be the same as in UGC/CSIRNET. Syllabi for all the K-SET subjects can be downloaded from the K-SET website 
http://kset.uni-mysore.ac.in. The K-SET center, Mysore will not send the syllabus to 
the individual candidates.
b) In case of any discrepancy found in the English and Kannada versions, the question in 
English version shall be taken as final.
